Brightburn ★★1/2
This was a medium entertaining flick with a large identity crisis. It didn’t know if it wanted to be horror, suspense, or super-villain origin story. It really never committed to being any of them. Bits and pieces of each burst through the dull background at times only to be quickly abandoned. Overall it was simply- okay. The parents were frustratingly written so if that was the point, it was achieved. I simply wanted more out of this. More of something. Either horror, suspense, or super villain. Instead I got a sad mix of all 3 punctuated by oddly out of place gore that the main villain never committed to. I wanted to see him go “full evil” but that seemed to only happen in the end credits. I wanted THAT in the film, not the slow paced movie I was presented with.
